Mission and Responsibilities
The Directorate of Broadband and Electronic Communications Networks is responsible for the design, supervision, and implementation of policies and actions that ensure access to modern, high-quality telecommunications services for citizens and businesses. Specifically, its responsibilities include:
- Development of fast Internet: Design and implementation of projects for the expansion of broadband across the country, including remote areas
- Support for infrastructure projects: Collaboration with relevant authorities for the development of fiber optic networks, installation of Wi-Fi in public spaces, submarine cables, and quantum communication networks
- Recording and transparency of infrastructures: Maintenance of a network registry and provision of information on infrastructures, aiming to facilitate investments and enhance transparency
- Facilitation of licensing: Simplification of procedures for rights of way and network installation, aiming to reduce bureaucratic obstacles
- Promotion of innovation: Support for research and development actions for new technologies and applications in the field of electronic communications
- International representation: Participation in European and international organizations to adopt best practices and promote national interests
