National Space Strategy

The General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post of the Ministry of Digital Governance shapes and implements the National Space Strategy, recognizing that space technologies and applications are now an integral part of modern daily life and the functioning of the state.

Space technologies provide solutions to a wide range of operational needs and contribute decisively to the implementation of public policies, offering economic, social, environmental, and strategic benefits. At the same time, they promote basic research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, enhancing the overall developmental dynamics of the country.

In an international environment where the importance of Space is increasingly recognized, Greece is called upon to strengthen its international position, develop the domestic space ecosystem, promote international collaborations, and utilize available space solutions for the benefit of the economy and citizens.

Key Pillars of the Strategy

The National Space Strategy defines the strategic orientation of the country and foresees all necessary actions for the organized and substantial engagement of Greece in Space, initially with a horizon up to 2030 and subsequently up to 2035.

The Strategy is based on a systematic analysis of the current situation in Greece, international trends and developments, as well as domestic capabilities and infrastructures, and focuses on:

  • supporting the state in matters of public policies and operational needs
  • developing the national economy, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the space sector
  • enhancing scientific excellence and attracting specialized human resources ("brain gain")
  • strengthening Greece's participation in European programs and international collaborations
  • developing and utilizing space capabilities that respond to national needs for autonomy, resilience, and security

Particular emphasis is placed on creating a cohesive and sustainable ecosystem of space activities, with active participation from the Public Sector, research and academic institutions, and the market.

Benefits for Citizens and Society

The utilization of space technologies and data significantly contributes to:

  • improving civil protection and managing natural and man-made crises
  • supporting agriculture, transportation, and environmental monitoring
  • enhancing connectivity, especially in remote and island areas
  • improving the efficiency and reliability of public services

At the same time, the development of space activities strengthens the national economy, creates new high-specialization employment opportunities, and contributes to the strengthening of the country's strategic autonomy in critical sectors.

The National Space Strategy is an integral part of the unified framework of national strategies of the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post and operates complementarily with strategies in the fields of the Internet of Things, Unmanned Vehicles, and Secure Digital Technologies.
