With the recent inauguration of the national supercomputer DAEDALUS at the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park, Greece acquires new capabilities in research, Artificial Intelligence, and big data processing. Capabilities that concern critical sectors: from health and energy to the prediction of extreme weather phenomena.
A particularly important application concerns Space data.
Next to "DAEDALUS," the Hub of the National Microsatellite Program will be installed, for the collection, management, and utilization of data from Greek satellites and the production of geospatial products and services.
The collaboration of the two infrastructures will allow us to combine satellite data with the power of supercomputing and Artificial Intelligence. The goal is faster image analysis, combinatorial processing of different data sources, and extraction of useful information, supporting Earth Observation services in near real-time.
In practice, this means new capabilities for:
- the prevention and management of natural disasters,
- monitoring the environment and the impacts of climate change,
- maritime surveillance and security,
- making informed decisions by public administration.
We connect our investments in Space, digital infrastructures, and Artificial Intelligence, so that data is converted faster into useful services for the protection of citizens, the environment, and the country's infrastructures.
