The General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post, as the implementing body of the National Microsatellite Program, announces the successful launch and placement into orbit of "Hyperion GR-1," the first Greek optical microsatellite of the new national satellite array.
Today's launch marks a decisive milestone for the National Microsatellite Program and confirms the country's steady progress in developing modern space infrastructures that will enhance the capabilities of Public Administration, Civil Protection, and national decision-making mechanisms.
"Hyperion GR-1" is the first of seven optical microsatellites being developed under the program and will offer high-precision Earth observation capabilities. Through advanced sensors and artificial intelligence technologies, it will provide valuable data for monitoring natural disasters, environmental protection, maritime surveillance, precision agriculture, spatial planning, and monitoring critical infrastructures.
As part of the strategic planning of the General Secretariat, the data produced by "Hyperion GR-1" will be integrated into the Government Geospatial Hub, creating a unified geospatial information environment for public entities. The utilization of this data is expected to significantly contribute to faster operational response, more effective natural hazard management, and informed decision-making.
The successful launch of the satellite from Cape Canaveral in the United States also marks the progress of the Greek space ecosystem and highlights the contribution of Greek businesses and scientists to the development of advanced space technologies.
The National Microsatellite Program, implemented through the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post, with the support of the Hellenic Space Center (HSC) and the European Space Agency (ESA), and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility "Greece 2.0," is a flagship national investment for the development of space infrastructures and services that will serve the country's needs for the coming decades.
