The Secretary General of Telecommunications and Post, Mr. Konstantinos Karantzalos, participated in the opening of the International Wildfire Conference 2025, organized by OroraTech and held in Athens with the participation of firefighters, international experts, scientists, and industry representatives. The event focused on tackling forest fires through the use of space technologies and innovative tools, such as the National Microsatellite Program and its connection with the National Coordination Center for Operations and Crisis Management, which is being developed in collaboration with the ESA - European Space Agency and OroraTech.
Greece is the first country in Europe to acquire a national satellite system for fire management, enhancing its operational capability, prevention, safety, and climate resilience. As the Secretary General mentioned, this investment represents another significant step towards a safer, more outward-looking, and digitally developed Greece, leveraging the space technologies it now possesses for the benefit of its citizens and the environment.
